Boy, 17, Rescued from Floodwater in Grimsby

A 17-year-old boy has been rescued after he was stuck in floodwater as more than 55 warnings are in place across Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.

Flooding Situation

About 100 properties have been flooded in Lincolnshire, where warnings are in place countywide from Brigg in North Lincolnshire to Market Deeping in South Kesteven. A major incident was declared by authorities in Lincolnshire on Monday night and a critical incident has been declared by East Midlands Ambulance for the first time.

The teenager got into difficulty on St Nicholas Drive in Grimsby at about 22:15 GMT on Monday and was "led to safety by four firefighters", Humberside Fire and Rescue Service reported.

Impact in East Yorkshire

In East Yorkshire, 17 flood warnings have been issued including at Bielby, near Pocklington, Leven, Routh, and Meaux, and Upper Hull catchment. About 25 road closures are in place due to flooding including the A1 between the B6326 near Newark-on-Trent and the B1174 near Grantham.

Government Response

In a statement on Monday night, Lincolnshire Resilience Forum (LRF) said: "We are keeping a really close watch on this as it develops because we know that there might potentially be more flooding, particularly in areas which may be affected by tidal waters."

Environment minister Emma Hardy told MPs on Monday flooding was "a personal priority" for her, adding that the Environment Agency was particularly concerned about Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, and Nottinghamshire.

Conclusion

About 50 pupils were evacuated from a school in Edenham, Lincolnshire, along with the teachers. All roads leading to Edenham Primary School, near Bourne, were flooded after heavy rainfall and volunteer drivers in 4x4 vehicles drove the children through the water to safety, the LRF said.
