The New Oilers' Evander Kane underwent successful knee surgery, requiring 4-8 weeks for recovery, as announced by the NHL team on Friday.
Following a pause in rehab from a September abdominal operation, it remains uncertain if Kane will be able to participate in the 2025 season.
Evander Kane, who tallied 44 points (24-20) in 77 games for the Edmonton Oilers last season, had surgery to repair both abductors, two hernias, and two abdominal tears in September. This season, he has not yet played due to the ongoing recovery.
The knee surgery, conducted in Edmonton on Thursday, will require Kane to halt his current rehabilitation to focus on recuperation from this latest procedure.
It remains uncertain whether Kane will be able to return to play during this season, as the recovery timeline from his previous operation was estimated to be at least five to six months. This operation aimed to address his previous injuries.
Details regarding the specifics of the knee surgery were not disclosed. Kane, aged 33, is expected to provide further information during a media availability session later today.
Kane contributed significantly to the Oilers' performance last season, accumulating 44 points (24-20) in 77 games and adding eight points (4-4) in 20 playoff games. His career statistics include 617 points (326-291) over 930 regular-season games since being drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2009.
