A protection zone has been established after an outbreak of bird flu in Angus, triggering restrictions on the movement of chicken eggs and poultry.
The highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), also known as H5N1, was identified at Over Ascreavie House in Kingoldrum, located in the Kirriemuir area. Chief Veterinary Officer Sheila Voas confirmed the report on Friday night.
A 3km (2 mile) protection zone and a 10km (6 mile) surveillance zone have been enforced around the affected site to contain the spread of the disease.
Restrictions have been put in place to halt the movement of poultry, carcasses, eggs, used poultry litter, and manure to prevent further transmission of the virus.
A declaration signed by Ms. Voas and published on the Scottish government's website officially announced the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza on the premises.
The protection zone and surveillance measures are crucial steps taken to control the spread of bird flu in Angus. Strict restrictions on movement and thorough monitoring are essential to safeguard against further outbreaks.
